Anti Aging Skin Care Secrets Using Collagen

Comments Off

Anti Aging and Collagen

Collagen is an anti aging substance that has widely used in cosmetic surgery as a healing aid for patients with burns, bone reconstruction and a miscellany of surgical, dental, and orthopedic purposes.

Skin care experts believe that collagen is an apt beauty treatment and has not been widely used for cosmetic makeup in the household.

What is Collagen?

It is believed that the anti aging collagen is more popular in the beauty industry as it is used in cosmetic surgery such as lip enhancement. Collagen is also one of the most plentiful proteins that are found in mammals. Approximately, a quarter of all proteins is collagen, which is the main content of our connective tissue.

It is tensile and comprises tendons and ligaments, causing elasticity of skin. The degradation of collagen, according to skin care experts, causes wrinkles that lead to aging. Crystalline collagen also fills up the cornea in the eyes.

Anti aging collagen is chemically made of a triple compound of helix that has 1050 amino acids. A superimposition of the triple helix compounds produces collagen fibrils that can be stabilized for rendering it insoluble with the help of its hydrolysis.

The process leads to the collagen hydrolysates which are natural ingredients that are biologically cosmetic and can be purified with gentle extraction or mild degradation of the enzymes. These are also dermatological compatible are free from contamination of any kind.

Collagen: Why is it good for your Skin?

Skin care and anti aging experts recommend collagen for the skin as this has a high molecular content and is important as a retainer of moisture suits all types of skin. It has a lot of benefits such as hydration; it betters the feeling of the skin and lowers the extent and depth of the wrinkles.

Wheat protein hydrolysate and protein hydrolysates on account of their properties of forming films, and even provide extra positive advantages by enhancing the softness and smoothness of the skin. They provide positive outcomes by being effective on account of their free radical capture.

Our busy schedules have made things to be done quicker for each of us by cutting out the corners. It may be effective in our diets, sleep, fitness and other activities. In the end, one of the last mentioned has its effect on our bodies; they help us obtain the maximum nutrition for supporting the health of the body.

Advantages of Collagen

Anti aging collagen is a key ingredient of the connective tissue that is present in the skin, joints, nails and hair.
The inner layer of the skin comprises large portions of collagen that decomposes at the rate of 1.5% annually once you cross 25 years. The surface of the skin thus becomes lifeless and dull with reduced elasticity, wrinkles and sagging.
Anti aging collagen improves skin quality by resulting in regeneration of tendons, joints, ligaments and bones. It improves connective tissue as well.
Arthritis research has shown almost 90% improvements in patients.
The appearance of your skin is related to the way in which it is supported; wrinkles are formed when levels of hyaluronic acid and collagen diminish.
Collagen provides volume and structure
It makes proteins water soluble and bio available for rapid absorption
The immune system of the body is stabilized and production of abnormal molecular structures neutralized. Hence, stiffness and joint disorders are eliminated, and the cartilage strengthened.

Dry Skin Care – How to Prevent Uncomfortable Irritation

Comments Off

Dry skin care is important because it prevents the uncomfortable irritation that comes from a lack of moisture from all areas of the body.

The lower legs, elbows, and forearms are a few parts of the body that could greatly benefit from dry skin care.

When skin becomes dry, it can feel coarse, as well as scaly, coupled with a bothersome itchiness.

Causes of Dry Skin

Some of the causes that create a need for dry skin care include an overheating of the body during the winter season accompanied with low humidity.

During the summer, the effects of air conditioning create a need for dry skin care.

Factors that can affect dry skin can be the overuse of soaps or antiperspirants, as well as luxuriating in a hot bath at the end of the day.

Dry skin care is needed for individuals who experience daily stress, have been exposed to smoke, or are exposed to great amounts of sun.

Dry skin also worsens as the body ages due to the loss of sweat and oil glands throughout the body.

Itching

What makes the condition of dry skin a real inconvenience is that it itches like crazy and can be easily irritated into a flare-up of redness and itching.

Without dry skin care, a person could suffer from a loss of sleep, as well as cause mood swings.

A physician should look at very dry and itchy skin because certain conditions like kidney disease and diabetes exhibit itching as a symptom.

Moisturizers, Ointment and Lotions

The most popular forms of dry skin care treatment are moisturizers that help replace some of the water that is loss through the skin. Moisturizers also work as a soothing agent to ease discomfort. This form of dry skin care comes in an assortment of satisfying products, such as lotions, creams and ointments.

When using an ointment for dry skin care, you will encounter a combination of water and an oil-based ingredient, such as petrolatum or lanolin.

Lotions are created when powder crystals are dissolved within water. The amount of water in lotions keeps the skin from having a too greasy feeling, as well as providing that cooling effect that you notice.

Lotions are good for a quick application, but you should know that they do not possess the same level of protection.

Adding oil to water creates creams. The disadvantage of using this type of skin care is that it has to be used more often. Moisturizers should be used as a dry skin care regimen to prevent further outbreaks.

Dry Skin Care Tips

Dry skin care tips include:

· Using a humidifier in your room in order to increase the amount of moisture in the air.

· When you bath less often or minimize the amount of time you spend in the bathtub or shower – this can alleviate dry skin.

· When you have dry skin, you should avoid using hot water, opting for a warmer shower or bath.

Skin Care – Why Does Steam Bathing Help Your Skin?

Comments Off

Steam rooms are known for their skin care benefits. People who use them regularly probably realize that there aren’t many things better for your skin than a good ole’ heavy sweat.

To understand how a steam room benefits your skin, it helps to have an idea what happens to your body during a steam bath…

Boy, It Sure Is Hot In Here!

From the moment you step inside a steam room, your built-in cooling system starts to kick into overdrive. Two of the many reactions that occur are an increase in…

1. blood circulation and

2. sweat production

Your body maintains a certain temperature commonly referred to as its basal body temperature (normally 98.6 F).

When you start taking a steam bath, your body increases sweat production to regulate its temperature.

At first, your body is able to fight off the heat by increasing circulation and sweating, but…

When your body is no longer able to dissipate the heat, your body temperature starts to rise. Blood is then forcefully shunted toward the surface of your skin and sweating increases.

This is where the skin care benefits kick in…

Clean out those pores!

While a shower rinses dirt off your body’s surface, the heavy sweating in a steam room rinses out your pores. This removes dead skin and impurities and leaves your skin feeling squeaky clean and silky smooth!

A plain old shower or bath just doesn’t compare.

More blood, please!

The increase in blood circulation brings more oxygen and nutrients to your skin surface. One way this benefits your skin is by enhancing collagen reproduction.

Collagen is partly responsible for your skin’s strength and elasticity.

In summary…

You can see how taking steam baths regularly will most likely improve your skin complexion and the way it feels. Heavy sweating combined with the increase in blood circulation is why steam rooms are good for skin care.

Wrinkled Feet Deserve the Same Skin Care That You Lavish on Your Face, Neck, and Hands

Comments Off

Many people tend to forget about their wrinkled feet when it comes to the fight against aging. I guess it’s understandable in as much as it’s a case of “out of sight, out of mind”. But having said that, as soon as you take off your shoes and socks, or pantyhose, there they are again, those horrible, old looking, wrinkly feet. So why not treat your feet to the same anti age skin care products that you use on the rest of your body?

Your feet take a lot of punishment, and unless you look after them properly, not just from an anti-aging point of view, but from a general wellbeing, and healthcare point of view, you will suffer for it. They are subject to blistering, to having corns growing on them, bunions, athlete’s foot, and something that so many of us suffer from, dry hard patches of skin. Your feet are good to you, transporting you wherever you go, so shouldn’t you look after them too? Of course you should!

One of the simplest things you can do for your feet from time to time, (especially after a hard day when you’ve been on them for most of the time), is to bathe them gently in warm water. It’s so soothing, and it can really help to de-stress you mentally after a trying day.

Another thing you should do regularly, especially if you get those nasty little patches of hard, dry, cracked skin on the soles and heels of you feet, is to defoliate. The most opportune time to defoliate your feet is usually just after you get out of the bath or shower. This is when the skin is still a little softer. You can use a sugar scrub, and then once they’re dry, you can take your foot file and gently file off that hard, dead skin. You’ll be surprised at just how good your feet will feel afterward.

But don’t forget your moisturizer. Yes, the same one that you use for the rest of your body; after all, aren’t your feet a part of your body too? Remember that the skin on your feet is no different to the skin on the other parts of your body, therefore it will suffer from precisely the same problems and fate as that other skin will, hence the wrinkled feet.

The same body system feeds the same proteins and nourishment to the skin on your feet as it does to the skin on the rest of your body. That means that in exactly the same way that the skin on your arms and legs deteriorates because of the lack of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid, so too will the skin on your feet.

Moisturizing your feet is very important. It’s best to do it at night just before you get into bed. But one of the problems is that the moisturizer might well get rubbed off by your bedclothes. So, to prevent this from happening, just slip on a pair of cotton bed socks to keep the bedclothes away from the cream. When you wake up next morning, you’re feet will feel beautifully refreshed. It’s a great way of rejuvenating the skin on your feet.

Your toenails can often be a form of embarrassment too. As you probably know, your toe nails, (and your finger nails too), are made up of dead skin. Hard to believe perhaps that is skin, but it really is. Every skin cell contains a substance known as Keratin. Keratin varies in its exact make up depending on where it is in your body. In the skin on your hands and face, it’s in the format that produces soft skin. But in your nails, it’s in the same format as it is in the hooves of animals for instance, creating that hard shell like substance. Feeding the Keratin in your body with the right body cream, will ensure that whatever type of Keratin it is, and wherever it is in your body, it will remain both plentiful and healthy, helping amongst other things, to make your wrinkled feet a thing of the past.

Hair Care – The New Buzz in Body Care Industry

Comments Off

Hair is a living organ of our body. Hair care involves proper and optimum care of hairs so that they do not get damaged. It could involve hair dressing also, wherein hairs are blown dry, combed and styled. It is very important that one eats healthy diet to keep her or his his hairs in good health. The hair gets its nutrition from the blood that flows in the veins the scalp skin. If someone suffers from prolonged stresses, has bad food habits or smokes excessively, it could result in a substantial damage to her or his hairs.

Different methods need to be employed to take care of different types of hairs. For example, children’s care needs an altogether different approach than an adult’s. Children typically have very fine hairs. Their hairs vary from those of the adults to a great extent in texture, density and colour. One should use a wide comb to detangle the children’s hairs. One should begin combing the child’s hairs from the bottom and move upwards through the length of the hair. One should also use a mild shampoo to wash the hairs of a child. A number of good appliances are available in the markets these days.

Some people develop bad head hair care habits. They use well or hard water to wash their hairs. The well water may contain many unwanted minerals like magnesium, silica and lead. These minerals adversely affect the hairs’ health and retard their growth. While magnesium may make the hairs dry, silica chokes the hair follicles and promotes hair fall. Lead makes the hairs to loose weight and inhibits the growth of new hairs. One should speak to a hair specialist to get proper treatment of hard water.

One should always opt for natural hair care methods. These natural methods use herbs for the treatment of hairs. Such treatments are very hygenic and promote healthy hair growth. One should avoid cheap hair care that is offered by many roadside saloons at throw away prices. Such hair treatments may result in permanent damage to the hairs. One should care for her hairs in the same way as she would for any other part of her body.

Laser Hair Removal or IPL – What is the Difference and Which is Best For You

Comments Off

Laser and IPL have been used to remove unwanted hair for many years with a high degree of success, however, to be actuate we must call it “Permanent Hair Reduction.” According to FDA rules manufacturers may not claim that laser (or IPL) hair removal is permanent unless the FDA determines that there is sufficient data to demonstrate such results. Several manufacturers have received FDA permission to claim, “permanent reduction,” but NOT “permanent removal.”

What this means in practice is that although most hair will be removed over a course of treatment, some hair will remain and some may re-grow, usually much lighter and finer, therefore, occasional top-up treatments may be needed.

Laser and IPL use energy in the form of light to destroy the hair follicle. The energy directed from the handpiece is absorbed by the melanin in the hair follicle, momentarily heating it to around 70 degrees centigrade killing the follicle and thus preventing further hair growth. However to complicate matters most people also have melanin in their skin that also absorbs light energy creating heat in the skin. If this heat is excessive it will cause blisters or burns. For this reason the ideal candidates for these treatments are those who are dark haired and fair skinned like the typical Irish complexion, whereas suntanned Danes with very fair hair are poor candidates.

We always insist that clients stay out of the sun for a few weeks prior to treatment so that the level of melanin in the skin is as low as possible and therefore wintertime in the UK is the ideal time for treatments.

With care most people can be treated but some may require many more treatments and any white, grey and even some red hairs will respond poorly (or not at all) to light based hair removal treatments. These will require many more treatments at a much lower power level and the operator will have to be extremely careful to ensure that the machine is correctly set to avoid skin damage.

Thankfully, most modern laser and IPL devices make this process much easier but it is still necessary to have a highly skilled operator and, here in the UK, all establishments must be registered with the Health Care Commission before they perform any laser or IPL treatments.

Hair grows in cycles and many factors influence it’s growth including age, ethnicity, weight, hormones, diet, medication and metabolism along with your hair’s location, thickness and resilience. Only hair that is in it’s growing cycle will be destroyed at each treatment session. The number of hairs growing at any one time and the length of time between treatments varies, but generally we allow 4 to 8 weeks.

There is sometimes mild pain associated with laser treatments. This discomfort ranges in intensity and has been described from as mild as the snap of a rubber band, to the sensation of a hot pinprick. When treating sensitive areas, (upper lip and bikini areas) some practitioners often elect to use a topical anaesthetic cream, which helps to reduce any discomfort.

There are two big differences between Laser and Intense Pulsed Light systems. One is in the area that can be treated in one go and the treatment speed. Generally IPL treatment heads are up to 8 times larger than the small spot produced by lasers and therefore treatments are much quicker.

The other difference is the wavelength of light produced. Lasers produce light with one specific wavelength whilst IPL uses an entire waveband. Different wavelengths penetrate the skin to different depths so using IPL is like using a group of lasers in a single treatment.

In our clinic we use an Ellipse Flex that with I²PL technology employing dual-mode filtering which removes water absorbing wavelengths from the output spectrum of the system. With the older intense pulsed light technology, water absorbing wavelengths are absorbed in the skin creating a non-specific thermal injury, which can lead to an increased risk of side-effects particularly burns.

To remove the infrared light, the Ellipse I²PL(TM) system has a unique extra filter consisting of circulation water. This means that the light components that normally would “heat” the water in the skin now “heat” the water in the system instead. By eliminating these wavelengths, the Ellipse I²PL is able to more specifically generate heat in the hair follicles rather than the skin. The unique Ellipse I²PL(TM) Technology eliminates the unwanted wavelengths, and standardizes the light use, meaning less energy is required to achieve a clinical effect. As a result, pain is reduced, while minimizing side-effects. With this new technology there is no need for thick, messy gels and contact cooling which makes the patient’s experience more pleasant.

Two classes of IPL systems are available; those that HAVE been tested for safety and performance by accredited, independent testing facilities, such as the European Union Medical Devices Directive (EU), as well as the FDA (Food and Drug Administration — US Government), and those that HAVE NOT been subject to such third-party testing.

Such untested systems are labelled with the standard CE mark but without an EU number. A system with a CE or FDA accreditation provides certainty that the system has undergone and passed stringent safety tests, that the manufacturer has documented that the system can perform the stated clinical treatments efficiently, and that possible risk and side effects are of an acceptable level for the results obtained.

The ELLIPSE IPL systems, have obtained accreditation and approval from both the EU as well as the FDA.

For your own safety when deciding on your treatment ensure that you choose a clinic that is registered with the Healthcare Commission, if not they will probably be un-insured, that uses a well known, tested and proven device. You must have a comprehensive consultation and patch test several days before you undergo any treatment and make sure you are not seduced by outlandish claims or discounts.

Body Wax – Hair Removal Wax Kit Based on Bee Wax and Honey

Comments Off

The ritual of body waxing is not recent. It goes back to ancient Egypt where women were encouraged to cultivate the ritual of hair free bodies. They paid much attention to beauty and body appearance, and this was a pefect blend of cosmetics and hygiene. A mix based on honey was used to make hair removal wax kit. The tradition of body wax preparation continued into ancient Greece but declined in the mid 10th century. After that, the attention we pay to waxing and hair removal still remains strong and present as a major part of our beautifying routine.

There are two forms of hair removal:

Depilation, which is mostly shaving and removes the hairs above the surface of the skin. If not done correctly, it might cause ingrown hairs problem that have to be treated and removed. By preventing ingrown hair you will find the depilation much more enjoyable.

The second form of hair removal is epilation in forms of hair removal by wax or honey based recipe for homemade wax hair removal, laser hair removal performed by lasers which is performed in beauty salons, or electric epilation kits that are available in stores.

The most popular form of body wax is bikini wax, foremost Brazilian bikini wax that has become very popular in recent years. It is best performed by professionals and can be quite painful. A downside of it might be ingrown pubic hair sometimes accompanied by itching as the hairs start to grow back.

Homemade hair removal wax

I thought of an anecdote a friend told me a while back.

She was in a relationship that was at that point going strong. One day, they are sitting on the couch in her living room, all romantic…He looks at her, places his hand on her chin and says: “I love your lips, they are so full and luscious… and that little fuzz you have going on… adorable!” :)

She couldn’t believe her ears! Needless to say, they are not dating anymore :)

My point?

To prevent anything similar happening to you on a romantic date, set some time aside and try out a recipe for homemade hair removal that makes a perfect body wax.

There are two recipes I would like to share with you, both effective and pretty simple. After that, you can find recipes that soothe the skin and prevent any possible skin irritation and ingrown hair.

Honey based body wax

The name body wax is right, this recipe can be used as a leg and eyebrow wax, upper lip wax. You could also use it on your arms.

Ingredients

7oz of honey

7oz of sugar

Freshly sqeezed juice of 1/2 lemon

You will also need:

a pan and tablespoon, preferably wooden spoon and

cloth strips which you can make out of an old shirt (cotton) or simply buy them at the pharmacy store.

Preparation:

Start out by caramelazing sugar. Set the temperature on medium high.
Stir sugar until it starts bubbling.
The color you are looking for is gold, that will indicate the sugar is ready and melted.
Proceede by adding honey and lemon juice, stirring the whole time.
When the mix is melted, drop the mass on a clean cotton towel.
Knead the mass until it becomes golden yellow.

This is where it becomes tricky. This body wax mix tends to harden quicky and you need to do something to keep it solf so you can mold it and apply on the skin. Unless you don’t mind, you could use some saliva. It has enzymes that will break the honey and sugar and keep it moist and soft. Another option, is to prepare a small bowl and fill it up with hot water. Don’t use it too hot, you might burn yourself, only hot enough so that you can use it. Then….

Some women get so good in doing this, that they actually make strips out of this mass and have no need to use the cotton strips. For beginners, follow the above instructions.

If you prefer to make the mix so it is more liquid and that you can spread using a wooden stick, add more water while it is still melting. Make sure that the consistency is not too thick nor too liquid, it should be similar to pancake batter :)

As I mentioned, it might take you some time to get a hold of it, and it might happen that the mix hardens while you are still waxing. No problem! Either dip your fingers in hot water you already prepared and mold it until it softens, or return it to the stove and cook until it melts again.

On to the next body wax that unlike the first one, uses beeswax but doesn’t require as much preparation.

Strawberry honey hair removal body wax kit

Ingredients

10 large strawberries

2 egg whites

4 tablespoons of honey

2 tablespoons of bees wax.

You will also need a double boiler in order to melt the bees wax. If you don’t happen to have it, do this: place a small pot inside a larger pot that contains boiling water.

Food processor or blender to mix it all together.

Cotton strips

Preparation

Melt the beeswax and let it cool down a minute or so
Put strawberries, honey and egg whites into the blender/food processor and add the beeswax
When the mass is blended, spread on the spot you want to wax, cover with cotton strip and pull quicky in the opposite direction of hair growth.

Strawberries are a strong antiseptic and prevent any possible skin irritation and infection, while egg whites rejuvenates it. They also make for a great body scrub ingredient as they easily slough off dead skin cells.

Wax removal

This recipe for homemade wax hair removal may leave a sticky residue. Wax is not dissolved by water only, so you need to add something to it in order to remove it.

Prepare this:

Boil 1 l of water (you can use distilled) and add 1 tablespoon of baking soda in it.
Rinse the legs off using a soft cloth.

The next day, when the possibility of irritation has decreased and your skin is smooth, prepare a mix that will certainly prevent ingrown hair.
